These carrot bundles are a simple way to dress up a bag of candy, a toy, or other gift.  They can be made as large or as small as the paper you have available.  They are also a great companion package (and complement) for the Easter Bunny Bundles.

MATERIALS:

Your treat.  This can be some loose candy, a toy, or other gift.  You may want to place any unwrapped candy or other food in a plastic bag, to keep it from sticking to the package.

A square or rectangle of paper for the carrot section of the package.  This can be any kind of  paper with an orange cast, such as construction paper, art paper, 2 or more layers of tissue paper, or paper cut from a large, orange-y mailing envelope (junk mail envelopes work well).  You can also use orange felt or orange cloth. (Stiff cloth works better; you can use heavy cloth or cloth that you have stiffened with starch or with white glue).

Three small rectangles of paper for the green carrot tops of the package.  This can be any kind of green paper, such as construction paper, art paper, tissue paper, or green junk-mail paper.  You can also use green felt or green cloth.

Glue or tape.  You can use almost any kind of tape or almost any kind of non-toxic glue, such as white glue, glue stick, rubber cement, a glue gun, or papier-mâché paste.  (For cloth, the last three glues work best, or you can sew the pieces together.)

Something to tie the top together.  You can use a green twist-tie, a pipe cleaner, a rubber band, or a clean hair tie, or you can use a piece of ribbon, yarn, or string, as long as you tie it in a granny knot on the back so the bundle is easy to open.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Step 1:  Using the corner of your rectangle of cloth or paper to be the point of the carrot, roll the rectangle into a cone shape.

Step 2:  Flatten the cone with the seam in the middle of one side.  Glue the seam together and let it dry, or tape it together on the inside of the cone.  Trim off the point at the top of the cone.

Step 3: Cut slits into the three small rectangles of green paper or cloth to form a fringe, but do not cut the slits all the way to the end—leave a base.  Glue or tape the bases of two of the rectangles to the inside of one side of the cone, and then glue or tape the third rectangle to the inside of the other side of the cone, as shown in the photos.  If the green paper is colored only on one side, make sure that the green side faces OUT.

Step 4: When the glue is COMPLETELY dry, fill the carrot with your treat, and carefully gather the top of the carrot together.  Tie it together with the twist-tie, or with whatever fastener you are using.  FINI!

Use your imagination!  These carrot bundles were made using everyday materials from around the house—tissue paper, paper cut from a manila mailing envelope and junk mail, construction paper, and cloth cut from an orange t-shirt and green silk.

The washcloth Easter Bunny Bundle and the cloth Easter Carrot Bundle make very complementary gift packages.
